Re-Sizing when Ordering
Photographs:
Re-sizing means the whole image is down-sized
so it can fit popular photo formats like 8x10 and 5x7. Cropping achieves the same result but you lose part of
the image--although preferable at times.
Professional cameras have a sensor size that is
a different ratio (length x width) than 8x10 and 5x7 sizes of years' past. Re-sizing the image is necessary
sometimes to print the whole image, and there's just no way around it.
If you are ordering prints, you should note that re-sizing may be necessary for 5x7, 8x10, 11x14 and 16x20; if you
don't mind going with a custom frame, you can order these sizes: 8x12 and 16x24 from Instaproofs and the whole image will print without the need
to re-size.
The first photograph below is the original. The
second is what you would get if you ordered it as an 8x10. The third is an example of how your print is processed
if you order from PhotoEmphasis. It's an extra step and there's no additional charge.
The third
photograph is a far superior solution. Even though the picture's image area is a little smaller, the whole
photograph will be visible. It will look nice in a frame. 5X7s require less re-sizing than 8x10. 11x14 and
16x20 require about the same amount as an 8x10.

Here's a
couple more examples of the necessity to re-size a photograph. The only way to print these as an 8x10, 5x7,
11x14 or 16x20 is to re-size the photograph.
